About The Opry

The River City Opry was created to provide local performers with a showcase for their exceptional talents. During its startup, nearly 200 performers traveled from all over Georgia and Florida to audition for the Opry productions, but only 35 artists represent the entire cast.

Today, with about the same number of performers, The River City Opry produces a show that is much like a "follies", with high energy entertainment ranging from featured vocal artists to comedians and instrumental revues. Performances ar often mainstream country western music, as well as traditional country songs along with music originating from Broadway.

The Opry includes performers ranging in age from 10 to 60, and oversees all aspects of the Opry's entire production. With dreams to eventually build an Opry House in Jacksonville, The Opry has plans for programs to reach out to communities throughout Northeast Florida and always provides wholesome family entertainment that can be enjoyed by young and old.

"Bring your children, bring your grandmother, and get ready for a production that will keep you on the edge of your seats."

The Origin of Opry

The Grand Ole Opry made Nashville the country / western music center for the country while Opry performance put Branson, Missouri, on the map during the 1980's.

Today, there are about a hundred Opry Houses around the country with the common component of quality family entertainment performed by area artists who hope to have a national presence. Opry was the starting point for many performers.

The roots of Opry productions are from country music with both modern and traditional sounds. Shows are often filled with comedic intervention, dancing and original productions.

It is, in every sense, a variety show.
